Trips/Excursions: New York City: A train ride or drive of less than an hour will bring you into Manhattan. Many popular destinations are open and accepting visitors, including the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Modern Art, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, shopping in Times Square, and tons of fantastic restaurants.

Jersey Shore: Spend a day in the sun and visit the famous Jersey Shore. The many different beaches New Jersey has to offer feature picturesque views, boardwalks, shops, excursions for fishing or dolphin watching, restaurants, and, of course, lots of waves and sand!

Grounds for Sculpture

Grounds for Sculpture: Located in Hamilton, NJ, Grounds for Sculpture boasts 42 acres of outdoor and indoor artwork on display. The work on display is from artists around the world, and exhibits change seasonally. Shopping: A variety of shopping options are available nearby. In Montclair within 5 minutes from the arena, Church Street and Valley Road both include a variety of boutiques, bakeries, and restaurants. Local malls include the American Dream in East Rutherford, which includes shops, restaurants, a theme park, an ice rink, and more, as well as traditional malls such as the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne and Garden State Plaza in Paramus.

Outdoor Activities and Sightseeing

Van Vleck House and Gardens: Montclair’s Van Vleck property dates back to the 1800s, and the house on the property was built in 1916 in the style of a Mediterranean villa. Today, visitors can walk through the grounds, which are filled with gardens boasting a variety of different beautiful flowers and atmospheres.

Garret Mountain Reservation: Garret Mountain has trails popular for jogging and hiking, as well as grass fields, a picnic area, pond with fish, and an Equestrian Center. It features a variety of scenic details, including Lambert Castle, and views of the New York skyline at the highest points of the trails.

Sports

New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena: For soccer fans, watch the New York Red Bulls professional soccer team take on Miami on July 17. The arena is in Harrison, New Jersey, and every game is always a good time! Link: www.newyorkredbulls.com

New Jersey Jackals at Yogi Berra Stadium: Watch the New Jersey Jackals professional baseball team take on the Wild Things on July 16, 17, or 18. The stadium is on the campus of Montclair State University, so there is no need to travel, and Saturday night’s game even includes a fireworks display. Link: www.jackals.com

Restaurants and Breweries

The Montclair area is home to tons of delicious restaurants with great theming and atmosphere. One of note is the new MC Hotel, which houses the Alto rooftop bar and lounge with fabulous views of New York City, as well as the MC’s signature restaurant, Allegory, which has a shared-plate, multi-course format. Local breweries include Cricket Hill Brewing Co. in Fairfield, Montclair Brewery in Montclair, and Ghost Hawk Brewing Company in Clifton, all of which have options for indoor and outdoor seating and allow food to be brought in or delivered to enjoy while you drink!
